Drug addiction and Bernie Sanders' Understanding Heart


Last Friday, I went to a Bernie Sanders rally in Salt Lake City, Utah. I posted one of my impressions of that stupendous event on Facebook and it has been since shared hundreds of times.

I went to a rally for Obama in 2007 and it was amazing.
Today's Bernie rally, however, touched me in a way nothing ever has before politically.
He mentioned drugs. He mentioned heroin and how it's better to rehabilitate, not incarcerate.
My son Nathan died from a heroin OD. With Bernie's comment about the seriousness of addiction and how it often kills, well, that was the first time I cried in the rally, but not the last.
Bernie Sanders gets it.

As is often the case these days, I was reading a funny kid story on a friend's Facebook wall and remembered something that happened when I was around 6. My mother was selling a big Leatherette couch, and even though I was little then, I do think the couch was like, seven feet long. It was light gray, and sticky and uncomfortable to sit on. I remember vividly when the seller came to pick up the couch and they pulled it away from the wall. On the back of the couch, in big huge permanent black letters read: J e n n y. The Charitable Company Christmas Party and Varying Degrees of Unpopularity

  Several years ago, I worked for a company and loved the work--at first. After I'd been hired, one of the people on my team (marketing) got 'let go' without any severance, but did get a good recommendation. Before he left, this man had told me the story of his hiring in the first place. He was known around the computer tech business as a cracker jack HTML guy. This company, I'll call it FFF, called him in a panic that their HTML guy had quit and they were in Big Trouble. He came in and saved the day. For two years, he saved the day. Then, with no notice, he had two weeks to work out a severance (huh???) and off he went. I was too new in my position to do anything more than ask a few quiet questions about it and the answers were sparse. I didn't know what was what. Yet. #BWW--This Stands for #Bernie Would Have Won--and He Would Have

On Facebook, they have this, look back and see what's happened in years past thingie. "Your Memories on Facebook." I've enjoyed looking at my memories--what the weather was like it years past, when I've been able to ride because the weather was great, when I had to stay indoors when the weather wasn't. I have some weird posts like, "I have a secret and soon I'll be able to tell it," and I think, JEN, what was the secret??? I also have some, boy, this show I'm in is great, but there's been so many shows I can't remember which one it was. The posts that make me the saddest, though, besides the ones about my son who passed away, are all my hopeful, amazing #Bernie posts. WE HAD THIS, PEOPLE. He was so the clear winner. The rallies!
